After all this work, hands down Sandy Rehab was the right place to put my family member. It was the last place we visited, but I knew immediately this was the place. The décor wasn’t as nice as one of the other places, nor did they have the option of a private room in the long term portion of their facility. But what stood out immediately was the staff. Staff was everywhere supporting the mission, and they were doing it from a genuinely happy disposition. There were smiles everywhere, patients in the hallways visiting (with smiles on their faces). Staff was present, engaged, and caring. I was very impressed. Quality of care was my highest priority, not décor.
Thank you for your gift.
Update.. My dad has since been moved to Avalon in Salt Lake City, 2472 South 300 East Salt Lake City, it's only been a few days, but a huge night and day difference in every way! We love Avalon!!! Food, cleanliness, smell, staff, you feel like your in a 5 star, lots of smiles, I saw patients just chatting away with staff and laughing. They gave me a list of the wonderful services they have, talked about the activities room. He's a few days in at Avalon and just posted a smiling picture of him in a wheelchair. When I call to ask him what I need to bring him he says nothing, he's a happy camper, excited even about his healing journey, he was so depressed before. Funny how atmosphere can have such a big impact on the healing process. I wish we had found Avalon from the beginning, but so greatful to have them now.
My dad is currently here and experiencing the same as Alyssa Taylor said. Over the weekend he dropped his bed pan and called nurses and it took forever for anyone to come. While visiting he said it was ok to leave because he had to use the restroom and he wasn't sure how long he'd have to sit in it, that it takes a long time for them to get to him. There have been quite a few other issues that are just humiliating to my dad, and he's of sound mind, his pelvis was crushed in an accident. I'm in the process to try to see if I can have him moved to a different facility. The physical therapist are great and lively, but the place as a whole is depressing, staff walk by with zero personality, they don't say hi or smile, my kids go in saying they're going to make patients day, and they do by just saying hello.
I have never done anything like this and found myself Googling websites to learn about what agencies I should be checking with to ensure I was selecting the best one. What reviews were other family members writing about their experiences? It was a tough thing to research. Then I went out to visit all three facilities to help make my decision.
It was a tough time. Making sure paperwork was in order, eating out of the vending machine, sleeping in chairs. Moments of high emotion, dealing with phone calls, worried about your loved one. Every single person I dealt with at Sandy Rehab, from the nurses, the CNAs, the staff that kept the room clean, the ladies that picked my family member up at his home, the admissions gal, the nice guy that helped me move him from the wheel chair to the bed, the persistent nurse that made him eat (stern when we couldn’t be, and I’m sure not his favorite person, but certainly ours!), the chaplain that came by, and all too many folks to mention… every single person cared about my family member. My family was astounded! Several family members said they were at peace because the people there cared so much. Staff let us focus on him and his spirit, instead of his bathing and eating.
I have worked at Sandy Health and Rehab for just over 4 years. I have had the opportunity to work closely with residents, their families and staff. We have a great facility. It gets better every day! We have a wonderful Administrator and caring staff that work tirelessly to make the lives of our residents better. Our Therapy Department is second to none. If you have a loved one that needs a skilled nursing facility, ours is the next best place to home. I am happy to endorse Sandy Health and Rehab
I do want to give a shout out to Yolanda and Nancy, they're incredible nurses, kind and thurough.
I am an employee at Sandy Health & Rehab. I truly feel like our staff care for each and every patient. We have a management team who is always striving to encourage our CNA' s and Nurses to provide the utmost care. Each day that I come into work I can always expect a very clean and friendly environment. I work in the admissions department and one of my many responsibilities are touring quests who are interested in placing their loved ones. I am constantly receiving feedback that our building is very well kept, the staff seem happy to be here and most importantly the patients are happy as well. I love hearing that! It tells me that this is the natural feeling in our building and is noticed almost immediately when entering our facility.
*I understand that caregiving is a huge underpaid job, it's hard, it takes a special person to provide such care. I'm not big on reviews unless something really bothers me, I'm big on humanity, love, kindness, and compassion. I discussed issues kindly before writing a review, nothing seemed to change.
Staff checked in on us, they brought us drinks and more comfortable chairs, they came by to chat. They brought blankets for us. They recognized we were there for the long haul, and it was okay. They accepted us, and I think, in a small way, probably appreciate we were there for our family member. It must be tough to be in this field and provide so much more to people who may not have family members to visit. I think this group of people would do a great job for those patients.
I keep wondering what I can do for the staff of Sandy Rehab that can say "thank you" for making this difficult time less challenging, but I am at a loss. There are no words I can give you that can express the deepest gratitude I have.
We moved my family member there, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that this care extended to us too! We lost my family member in less than two weeks of admittance, but I can’t think of a better more caring place for him to make that transition. We were able to have at least one family member with him 24/7 the entire time he was at this facility – Sandy Rehab made that possible.
You always want to do the best you can for the people you love, but, or course sometimes authorized providers, approved contracts through VA or Medicare, limit your choices. Financial resources also limit what you might be able to provide for your loved one. It was with great stress and dread that I began the task of choosing the best facility for my family member, given the short list of 3, I was authorized to select from.
Update... my dad got a staph infection in this center and had to be transported to the hospital for surgery, instead of the center making things better, they didn't allow my father back because I spoke up. I would never recommend this facility to anyone.
Was everything perfect? Of course not. Nothing is ever perfect when you are going through this. You get back what you put in. We were a very intense and engaged family. If you can’t be that, it’s okay too. Everyone’s situation is different, there is no judgement here. But if I couldn’t be that engaged and present, and I had to trust staff to do that for me, these are the folks you want to pick.
Sandy Health and Rehab gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. Even through there are hard times and it gets extremely busy, someone is always there for you. The residents are sweet. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work here. Sandy Health and Rehab has a great team. There are so many wonderful coworkers who work here. They are always thoughtful of the needs of our residents.
I found myself in the terrible position of having to place a family member in a long term treatment center. To make things even more difficult, the family member did not want to go to a facility.
